Building Adult Computer Literacy

Did you attend the computer skills workshops we hosted recently, with local partner, DebuggingOut? Participants were introduced to basic computing principles, as well as given an introduction to coding essentials like HTML and CSS, and the powerful language of Python.

Building coding skills is a fantastic objective. And we – as well as our friends at DebuggingOut – would LOVE to help you walk that path! Let us know if future workshops and/or more direct tutoring would be something you’d be interested in accessing through us.

At MAD4YU, providing computer skills training for adults is one of our primary missions.

But, that being said, we want to be clear about one very important thing:

When we talk about adult computer training, we don’t just mean coding. We mean computer essentials.

Learning to code is a very distant objective (if it’s even on the table at all) for those of us struggling to understand the basics.

That’s why, when it comes to tech, MAD4YU’s central focus as an organization is on building strong foundations. We want to help you feel confident that you can navigate the internet efficiently and safely. We want you to be comfortable with drafting emails, with filling out paperwork online, with paying bills online. We want you to know how to find a job online, and how to apply for it. We want to help you understand social media and the ways those platforms impact modern communication.

So much of life has migrated to the online/digital space! We want you to feel good about that, to feel capable, to feel empowered. And if you don’t, we want to help you get there.

Are you someone who feels that technology is progressing at such a rapid pace, you’re in real danger of being left behind?

If “yes” — know that you’re not alone. Technology IS moving fast. It’s moving very fast. It’s hard to keep up, particularly when you didn’t grow up in a world of smartphones and high-speed internet and social media. The changes of the last 20+ years are almost dizzying. And with A.I. exploding onto the scene now, the pace of change shows no sign of slowing.

Whatever your needs, we want to help. That’s, in fact, why we’re here!

No question is too basic, believe us. Our caring volunteer tutors work one-on-one with you, gearing sessions around your particular needs. We can start at the absolute beginning, if that’s where you are, and we’ll take you as far as we’re able.

Our aim is to help you reach your goals – big or small! If we can’t meet your needs, or if you advance beyond us, we’ll help you find another organization to continue to grow with. (Python coding questions, for example, will almost certainly be better addressed by DebuggingOut!)
